Quick status update

By 2014-12-10 Buffalo + Plex

I’m planning to release another version of the firmware before the holidays with the newest Plex server (0.9.11.4) but I also wanted to add something extra. FlexGet is still not working well on my device, it needs some additional development and updating any other components (Twonky, MySQL, PHPMyAdmin) isn’t easy either if you want the users to feel safe when upgrading. (Compatibility issues can arise.)

I might be able to add better power management to the device itself. It seems the first tests are successful, if I have any connection open to the device (Plex, torrent or even the administrative interface), it’s not killing my session by going into sleep mode. To be honest I didn’t use sleep mode until now, just because it was so keen on sleeping…

So, stay tuned, more is on the way.

    Hi GaryT,

ive been running Shonks Mods on my LS-CHL and have just managed to get a cheap LS-VL which i plan to update. Does your mod have Twonky running as i find this the best way to watch .MKV on my TV.

    Thanks Frankie

      Hi Frank,

The current custom firmware contains the original Twonky server that BuffaloTech put in the firmware. It didn’t make sense to upgrade if the firmware’s main purpose is the Plex Server. Shonk’s firmware has the Twonky Flash Media Browser added and some Twonky plugins that were removed by Buffalo.

I can look into it if you think it adds value to the firmware.

        Hi GaryT,

Im now running your firmware and the standard twonky seems to be running all media fine. Plex on the other hand doesn’t find any media. Is there any way to tell it where to find the files. I’ve never used it before?

It maybe just me but after I ran the firmware I didn’t have root unlocked I had to find a work around on wiki but I’m in now.

        Thanks

          Hi Frank,

You’re on the right track, you need to tell Plex where to search for files. Go to the web interface and click the plus sign on the top left, next to the name of your Linkstation. Choose which type of media you want it to search for (TV Shows, Movies, Music, etc) and add the folders you want it to index. On the Buffalo it takes a few seconds to fill in the “Language” part. wait until it does it. If it fails to fill it, try it again, sometime it needs a second try. (This usually happens when you first try to add a new library.)

A step-by-step introduction on how to use your new Plex server is available on the Plex website.

    Hi GaryT,
Firstly, thanks for the fw! PMS runs well on my old Linkstation Duo. I have both hdd as JBOD but Plex can’t ‘see’ folders when I try to add /mnt/disk2 from the selection. I used FileZilla to check the permissions & both hdd are setup the same. Any ideas will be helpful. Thanks.

      Hi Junwei,

This got me unprepared, to be honest. Based on the settings on my Pro Duo I thought you can only set it up as RAID0 or RAID1 or one disk. In RAID mode, the disk would be /dev/md0 and in “one disk” mode it would be /mnt/disk1.

Because of this, the Plex environment doesn’t even consider /dev/disk2 as an option. (The environment is jailrootet, so everything has to be mounted when Plex starts.)

I’ll try to recreate this on my own NAS, but even if I can’t it shouldn’t be a big deal to mount /dev/disk2 when Plex starts. I’ll fix this in the next release. (I’m planning to release it this weekend, I think I’ll de-prioritize other features.) Until then, you will only be able to watch movies from /dev/disk1. 🙁

    Hello,

    I enjoyed this rom, congratulations!

I would like to report a problem I have, I’m trying to use the Transmission 2.84, the application works correctly only after the download is complete, I can not copy and / or move files in the folder, I get the message that I’m not allowed to do so.

I found that the Pastra transmission and created files are created by the root user and carrying can not move the file from this directory.

    Inform know how to solve?

      Hi Adilson,

I’m sorry I’ve kept quiet about this bug, I’ve also noticed it earlier this week and I’ve fixed it in the next release. I’m planning to release that next weekend, please be patient until then.

With Transmission, you should be able to move and remove the files but moving them out of the Transmission directory using SMB does not work until the next release.

      Regards,
